International Maritime Arctic Educational and Scientific Expeditions ‘Training-through-Research’ on Research Vessels

The Arctic Floating University scientific and educational expedition took place from 23 June to15 July as part of the plan for the events of Russia’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021–2023, which is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

The expedition included 55 researchers, students and post-graduate students. It departed from Arkhangelsk on “The Professor Molchanov” vessel and passed through the waters of the islands of Novaya Zemlya, Franz Josef Land, as well as the White, Barents, and Kara Seas.

The researchers tested a small-class remote-controlled uninhabited underwater vehicle, a new method of complex technical diagnostics using modern equipment, and studied space weather factors in the polar regions of Earth’s lower orbit that could impact failures in small spacecraft.
