Arctic Talks looks into government plans to support Arctic enterprise

An online discussion on new government measures to bolster enterprise comes as first in a series of Arctic Talks.

The Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic and the Roscongress Foundation have hosted an online conference, On New Measures to Bolster Enterprise in the Arctic Region of the Russian Federation, the first of a series of Arctic Talks to focus on the more salient priorities of the Arctic agenda.

“If we want people to stay in the Arctic by choice despite the inhospitable conditions, we have to make their lives more comfortable by creating new jobs that pay well”, said First Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and Arctic, Alexander Krutikov. “This is now possible thanks to the federal law and related statutes”.

Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, believes that the current preferential treatment given to Russia’s Arctic Zone is among the most attractive worldwide.

Nord Star LLC became the first resident of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation. The target set for the project is to reach a petrochemical cargo flow of at least 4 mn metric tons annually thanks to the technological refitting of the Vitino port and the Belomorskaya Petroleum Depot. Denis Martynov, director of Nord Star LLC, revealed that the project requires RUB 2.9 bn in investment, and is expected to create 246 jobs. Not only is Nord Star LLC the trailblazing Arctic resident; it has received support from the government for the restoration of critical infrastructure assets for the community of Beloye More.
