Arctic Stage of the ‘Cape Chelyuskin – Cape Piai’ International Expedition

Direction: Arctic Tourism

Place: Yakutsk – Cape Chelyuskin – Dixon – Dudinka – Norilsk

The Arctic stage of the Cape Chelyuskin – Cape Piai international expedition implemented as part of the plan for the main events of Russia’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council in 2021–2023, which is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

Four Russian travellers set out on the trip in a single car from Yakutsk to Cape Chelyuskin and came back. The expedition route passed through the cities of Mirny and Udachny, Taimyr Peninsula, Middendorf Cave, and the Byrranga Mountains, crossing the Arctic Circle along the Anabar winter road. The trailblazers were the first to travel the entire route to Cape Chelyuskin overland exclusively by car. More than 3,500 kilometres of the route was offroad.

The project’s main goals were to promote tourism in Russia’s Arctic regions as well as develop routes for foreign tourists. The expedition members passed through national villages, some of which are also ready to receive tourists.
