Kirovsk Ski Resort to Host First Power of Colour Festival on 6–7 May
The Big Wood ski resort in the Murmansk Region city of Kirovsk will host the Power of Colour Festival for the first time on 6–7 May. The main purpose of the event is to promote Arctic tourism. The festival will take place as part of the plan of events of Russia’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council, which are being managed by the Roscongress Foundation.
“Many ski resorts in Russia close in early May, but in the Murmansk Region we continue to ski. We expect that the ski season will close in early June. So the Power of Colour is a festival that will continue the ski season in the run-up to the polar day in the Arctic,” said Alexander Yeliseyev, chairman of the Murmansk Region’s Tourism Committee.
The musical headliners of the event will be Olga Seryabkina, Moya Mishel, and DJ Clubkilla. Regional stars, such as DJ Deep Touch, DJ Silinsky, DJ Tanitsoy, DJ Gabur, and DJ No Izi, will also perform on the main stage of the festival, as will the cover band Naveka Band. In addition, the Small Khibiny mass ski run will also take place as part of the festival.
Eight catering establishments from the Murmansk Region and Karelia will present restaurant dishes as street food to visitors at the Taste of the Arctic food court. The festival’s guests will be able to taste their favourite foods at a gastro festival of Arctic cuisine as well as the latest dishes of the season. The event is being held under the patronage of the Gastronomic Map of Russia project with the involvement of project manager Yekaterina Shapovalova.

In 2023, the Power of Colour Festival is being organized by the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic, the Murmansk Region’s Tourism Committee, the Kirovsk City Administration, the company PhosAgro, and the Kirovsk Agency for the Development of Tourism and Entrepreneurship with the support of the projects Gastronomic Map of Russia, Silver Necklace of Russia, as well as the Tourist Information Centre of the Murmansk Region.
The Big Wood ski resort is located within the city of Kirovsk and is the highest mountain resort in northwest Russia. It is located on the southern and northern slopes of Aikuayvenchorr Mountain and includes trails with every level of difficulty. Big Wood is on list of Russia’s best ski resorts, and in 2022 it won the nomination ‘Best Ski Resort in Russia in the Northwestern Federal District’ of the Mountains of Russia National Award. It remains open for skiers even in June. The resort is 30 kilometres from the nearest airport (Khibiny, KVK) and 21 kilometres from the nearest railway station (Apatity-1). Buses run regularly between the station and Kirovsk, and you can also travel to Big Wood by car.
Russia is chairing the Arctic Council in 2021–2023. A cross-cutting priority of the chairmanship is to ensure responsible governance over the sustainable development of the Arctic. The comprehensive programme of Russia’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council aims to promote cooperation to improve the well-being and quality of life of the Arctic population, including the Indigenous peoples of the North, adapt the Arctic to the effects of climate change, conserve the biodiversity and unique ecosystems of the Arctic, ensure socioeconomic development, find solutions in matters concerning global energy and transport security, promote scientific cooperation in high latitudes, and strengthen international cooperation.
