Murmansk Region to Host 6th Teriberka Arctic Festival in Late Summer

The Murmansk Region government held discussions on preparations for the 6th Teriberka Arctic Festival, which is scheduled for 21–22 August 2021.

This year the festival will be held as part of the cultural programme of Russia’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council. In addition, Murmansk Region Tourism Committee Chairman Alexander Yeliseyev presented a tourism action plan for the second half of 2021.

“Tourism is a rapidly growing branch of the economy in the Murmansk Region. Events in this area are extremely important because they encourage the economy, investors, and entrepreneurs to open new hotels and restaurants, and develop infrastructure, especially in small areas. Holding the festival as part of Russia’s chairmanship in the Arctic Council is a great responsibility and an impetus to draw attention to the integrated development of territories in the northern latitudes,” Murmansk Region Governor Andrey Chibis said.

The architecture of the 6th Arctic Festival programme is currently being developed and will be presented in early August. The key themes of the festival will be musical, gastronomic, sports, and creative spaces.

The festival will also include a number of thematic sessions at which experts will discuss the potential for the region’s development and address such issues as Arctic studies, cultural values, and ecology.

“Given the situation with the spread of coronavirus, the organizing committee sent a proposal to [the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing] to approve the possibility of admitting participants and visitors to the festival who have and present one of the following four documents: a PCR test taken within the last 72 hours, a certificate on having antibodies, a certificate of vaccination or a QR code for people who have recovered from coronavirus after least six months. After presenting one of the documents, each visitor and participant will be given a corresponding guest bracelet for the festival,” Yeliseyev said.
