RAO/CIS Offshore 2021 International Forum Opened in Saint Petersburg

On 21 September Mariinsky Palace hosted the Plenary Session of the Conference for the Arctic Ocean Shelf Development within the frames of the Chairmanship of the Russian Federation in the Arctic Council in 2021 and the RAO/CIS Offshore 2021 International Forum. In 2021 the operator of the Chairmanship is the Roscongress Foundation.

The Plenary Session was moderated by documentary filmmaker, anchorwoman Ekaterina Igorevna GRACHEVA.

The participants and guests were greeted by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Alexander Valentinovich NOVAK, Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Dmitrievich BEGLOV and Deputy Minister of Health Tatyana Vladimirovna SEMENOVA.

The plenary session was attended by Vyacheslav Serafimovich MAKAROV, Chairman of St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly; Vladimir Nikolaevich KNYAGININ, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg; Alexey Emilievich KONTOROVICH, RAS Academician, Chairman of the RAS Scientific Council on Geology and Development of Oil, Gas and Coal Fields, Global Energy Prize Laureate, Chairman of the Program Committee; Nikolay Viktorovich KORCHUNOV, Chairman of the Arctic Council Senior Officials Committee, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Vladimir Stefanovich LITVINENKO, Chief for scientific activities, Deputy Head of the interdepartmental working group for development of hydrogen energy in the Russian Federation, Rector of St. Petersburg Mining University; Andrey Nikolaevich SHISHKIN, Vice President of Informatization, Innovations and Localization of Rosneft PJSC; Marat Faritovich NURIEV, Deputy Head of the Offshore Field Engineering and Technology Development of the Gas, Gas Condensate and Oil Production Department of Gazprom PJSC; Maksim Vladimirovich KULINKO, Deputy Director of the Northern Sea Route Directorate of Rosatom SC; German Germanovich SHIROKOV, Chairman of St. Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs.

During their speeches the participants emphasized the importance of the RAO/CIS Offshore Forum as the leading platform for the presentation of the technologies involved in the already implemented projects aimed at the development of the shelf lands. The Forum brings in state and entrepreneurial structures for the implementation of large-scale projects, and initiates many of them.

It was also noted that raw materials resources are a sector of the Russian economy that will remain in demand for at least the next 30–50 years. Today there are new trends and opportunities to consider the genesis of hydrocarbon resources, and this requires comprehensive research.

The results and prospects of the activities of Gazprom PJSC, Rosatom SC and other Russian energy companies in the Arctic zone and on the continental shelf were presented.

The speakers expressed their hope that the Forum would also provide reliable promotion of energy projects and wished the participants to achieve high results in the course of their work at the events.

The final part of the session was the Ceremony of awarding the winners of the Arctic and Continental Shelf International Contest of Scientific, Technical and Innovative Developments for the Development and Exploitation of the Arctic and Continental Shelf, organized by the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.
